We are excited to be recruiting for a proactive Senior Finance Associate to join our busy Finance Operations team in Peterborough on a 16-month Fixed term contract basis.
Senior Finance Associate:
We are looking for a proactive Senior Finance Associate to join our busy Finance Operations team. The role is to assist the Finance Operations Manager and Senior Cashier in the provision of in-house financial administrative support needed to deliver seamless legal services to clients.
The ideal candidate will be familiar with accounting and banking procedures in a busy work environment; direct experience within a Solicitor’s practice will be an advantage but is not essential. The candidate must have a can-do attitude, excellent organisational skills, works well as part of a team and has a solutions-focused approach.
There will be a requirement for a high standard of accuracy, delivering in a timely manner maintaining strict financial controls and ensuring adherence with office procedures.
The key duties include:
- Cover various duties as agreed by the Finance Operations Manager and Senior Cashier, including specifically:
- Maintenance of the firm’s purchase ledger.
- Raising payments (cheques, BACS and CHAPS), posting receipts & reconciling the firm’s bank accounts.
- Posting financial transactions to the accounting systems including fee and disbursement,
invoices, and transfers of client money. - Administering the firm’s expenses system including checking and posting staff claims.
- Provide timely updates to fee earners for all money transactions.
- Maintain incoming cheque log.
- Maintain petty cash accounting records.
- Receiving card payments from clients.
- Produce ad hoc reconciliations, reports and other statements.
- Check accuracy of lawyer property completion and accounting statements.
- End of day reconciliation and checking of balances.
- Provide credit control support when required.
- To be proficient in the use of the accounting systems and online banking system.
- To provide general assistance in the absence of other team members, to include holiday and sickness cover.
- To possess a flexible approach in providing support to other team members dependent upon capacity.
- Processing invoices to clients.
Skills and experience for the Senior Finance Associate:
- Relevant accounts office experience.
- Experience of accounts in a Legal environment advantageous but not essential.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of accounts management systems and Microsoft Office applications, with intermediate excel skills (Pivot, V Lookup).
- A strong team player and leader with a can-do attitude.
- Uses initiative, plans and organizes own time and workload so as to meet deadlines and prioritize work.
- Ability to reconcile accounts and have excellent attention to detail.
